Emulator 27.2.4 canary
Friday, April 6, 2018
Emulator 27.2.4 is now available in the Canary channel. It contains the following changes:
Fixed an issue that caused the rotate buttons to not work unless the
Extended controls
window was open.
https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/77258337
Some changes have been made to improve the speed of saving an AVD snapshot. If you still experience unusually long saves, please file an issue in
Issuetracker
, providing details of your CPU, RAM, and settings of any antivirus / firewall / security software that is running.
Avast Issues
We have found that if Avast is installed and Hardware virtualization is enabled or "Enable nested virtualization" is disabled, the emulator will not be able to launch due to conflicts with HAXM. We recommend disabling hardware virtualization features of Avast if Avast is installed. In addition, after Avast hardware virtualization is disabled, please ensure that HAXM is set up properly again with a full re-install of the latest HAXM from the SDK Manager.

Data Binding V2 is now enabled by default and is compatible with V1. This means that, if you have library dependencies that you compiled with V1, you can use them with projects using Data Binding V2. However, note that projects using V1 cannot consume dependencies that were compiled with V2.

Emulator 27.2.3 Canary
Friday, March 30, 2018
Emulator 27.2.3 is now available in the Canary channel. It contains the following changes:
Added a shortcut to go to the Screen Recording UI: Control + Shift + R (Command + Shift + R on Mac).
Changed the
-phone-number-prefix
command line option to
-phone-number
<number>
, allowing setting of the full phone number.
Screenshots can now be taken from the telnet console with either of these commands:
screenrecord screenshot
<destination-directory>
adb emu screenrecord screenshot
<destination-directory>
Screenshots are in PNG format.
Fixed a crash on start.
The frameless emulator's resize rectangle has been updated to better follow the emulator's visual theme.
Performance and antivirus software
We have been conducting tests to determine how to improve loading and saving times for AVD snapshots. In performing these tests, we have found that antivirus software packages that monitor every read and write operation can decrease performance for loads and saves. If your antivirus software provides the ability to whitelist applications, try whitelisting the Android Emulator application and see if performance improves. Also, if you have additional antivirus software installed beyond that which is included with your operating system, run some tests yourself to determine which gives you better performance with applications like Android Emulator.
Android Studio 3.2 Canary 8 now available
Monday, March 26, 2018
Android Studio 3.2 Canary 8 is now available in the Canary and Dev channels.
Inspect JNI References in the Memory Profiler:
If you deploy your app to a device running Android 8.0 (API level 26) or higher, you can inspect memory allocations for your app’s JNI code using the
Memory Profiler
. While your app is running, select a portion of the timeline that you want to inspect and select JNI heap from the drop-down above the class list, as shown below. You can then inspect objects in the heap as you normally would and double-click objects in the Allocation Call Stack tab to see where the JNI references are allocated and released in your code.
General bug fixes:
This update includes fixes for the following public issues:
Issue#72614343:
Gradle build fails to recover from invalid cached library
If you already have an Android Studio build on the
Canary or Dev channel
, you can get the update by clicking Help > Check for Update (or Android Studio > Check for Updates on Mac). Otherwise, you can
download here
